Airplanes are amazing machines that can fly really high, but they cannot go to space.
Space is an incredible place, full of stars, planets and galaxies. But it is also a vacuum, which means there is no air in space.
This lack of air is precisely why airplane cannot operate in space.
Airplanes use engines that need air to work. These engines suck in air, mix it with fuel, and push it out back really fast to move forward. But as our airplane goes higher and higher, the air gets thinner, there’s less air for the engines to use, and eventually they wouldn’t work at all.
That’s where rockets come in. Rockets don’t need air to work. They carry their own fuel and oxygen, which lets them go to space where there’s no air.
Another reason is the wings. Airplanes need wings to stay up in the air. The wings push air down, which lifts the airplane up, but in space there’s no air to push against, so wings wouldn’t work.
So airplanes stay within the Earth’s atmosphere where there’s enough air for them to fly. Rockets, on the other hand, are designed to leave the Earth’s atmosphere and explore space.
Both airplanes and rockets prove that when we set our minds to something, nothing is beyond reach, not even the skies.
